Carteret Banks

Alchemist Rest sculpture by Carteret

Carteret draws upon skills developed across multiple disciplines, including roundwood carpentry, stonework, clay plaster finishing, and living roof construction, to explore the possibilities of living sculpture. At an architectural scale, these sculptural forms can become functional dwellings that bring together craftsmanship, natural materials, and the surrounding environment.

Carteret also sees his work as a way to question traditional institutional systems and explore ideas of decolonization. Rooted in ecological knowledge and an ethos of care, his practice considers how the spaces we build can support people, strengthen communities, and create a more thoughtful relationship with the natural world.
