I began woodworking in 1987 after a difficult year of work-related accidents as a lineman and two car accidents left me debilitated and spending a great deal of time with a chiropractor. You could call it serendipity or fate, but a chance meeting with my best friend’s in-laws introduced me to woodworking in their barn between doctor’s visits. What began there ultimately turned into a career spanning almost forty years.
It has been a long and interesting journey. I’ve worked as a museum conservator, built reproduction furniture, started a corporation, and employed five full-time craftspeople specializing in humidors and cigar-centered furniture. Along the way, carving and marquetry—the use of natural veneers to create images in wood—found their way into my repertoire.
In 2016, I moved to Knoxville and eventually joined the Art Market Gallery. In 2024, I began showing at The Grovewood Gallery in Asheville, North Carolina. That same year, I joined Able Trade in Knoxville’s Old City and became part of its maker community.
Today, I create one-of-a-kind pieces, primarily in a modern interpretation of the Arts & Crafts style, incorporating distinctive details and sculpted features that take each design in its own direction.
